Painting Holidays

Art and a Holiday combined in a Friendly Atmosphere

Enjoy the wonderful light and tranquility of La Manga, the magnificent sea views, Roman architecture, mining towns, and unspoilt countryside.

The courses are designed to help both experienced painters and beginners to make the most of their abilities and to enjoy their painting. Non-painting partners are welcome at a discounted price.

There are lots of interesting activities for non painting partners: walking, cycling, birdwatching, windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing, relaxing on the beach, great Spanish restaurants, shopping, markets and visiting the cultural cities of Murcia and Cartagena.  See home page for details.

Bee, your tutor, loves to paint sea views, animals and flowers in rich deep colours in acrylics and watercolour and enjoys passing on her expertise to her students.

All you have to do is to get to Murcia airport and we do the rest.  Artists living in Spain who do not need accommodation are also welcome at a course fee of £150 per person for the week.

ITINERARY

Day 1  Wednesday:   Pick up from Murcia airport.  Settle into villa.  Visit the local supermarket for supplies.  Relax and enjoy the magnificent views.  Go for a walk, or eat in a local restaurant or beach bar (depending on season).

Day 2  Thursday:   Tutor demonstration.  Watercolour techniques.  Paint wonderful sea views and boats in watercolour.  Lunch at a local restaurant.  Afternoon studio or free time to relax.

Day  3  Friday   Develop a small still life study of objects found on the seashore e.g. shells, stones, driftwood etc.  We will experiment with watercolour pencils, crayons and pastels, learning to use these mediums effectively to describe colour, form and texture.  Lunch in studio.  Afternoon free.

Day 4  Saturday:  Visit to Cartagena (a very attractive old Roman city with an interesting history).  Drive to Los Nietos - a local fishing village.  Catch the little train through the mining hills and villages into Cartagena.  Draw and paint Roman architecture in watercolour crayons or pastels.  Have a leisurely late lunch by the port.  Afternoon and evening free to visit the sights of Cartagena, go shopping or return to the studio to finish painting.

Day 5  Sunday:  Visit to the local market.  Soak up the atmosphere, buy shoes handbags, clothing, local produce, fruit and veg.  Picnic on the beach if the weather permits.  Afternoon to relax and enjoy the local area or finish off paintings in studio.

Day 6  Monday:  Tutor Demonstration.  How to use acrylics to paint an impressive seascape.  Paint on a large canvas to create a dramatic and different painting, allowing yourself to become absorbed into the tranquility, light and amazing colours of the sea!  Use large brushes and really express yourself!  Lunch at local restaurant.  Afternoon free to finish off painting.

Day 7  Tuesday:  Tutor Demonstration.  Stone buildings and texture in watercolour.  Visit the ancient Roman silver and lead mining area to paint old mine workings, stone buildings, beautifully coloured landscapes in pastels or watercolour.

Day 8  Wednesday:  Collection and return to airport.

The timetable is subject to change if the weather is inclement.

Artists of limited mobility will have transport provided to painting sites close to car parking.

The weather is often beautifully sunny and warm and the light is still very bright in the winter, which is why we offer holidays throughout the year.

Spring time is wonderful here in La Manga.  The temperatures are similar to those of a UK Summer (when we have one) and the scenery is absolutely stunning.
